Economic Development
One of North Edinburgh Trust’s aims is to maximise the economic benefits to the local community from the Granton Waterfront development and other local opportunities. We want to increase household income by expanding the range of training and jobs available to local people of all ages. We want opportunities to be available for people not only looking to get back into work, but also who are in work and want to improve their household income and career prospects.
We plan to achieve this by collaborating with developers, agencies and other organisations to ensure that they understand the community’s perspective and by developing productive relationships that deliver real benefits for local people.
In the first instance we aim to:
- Develop apprenticeship and other construction training schemes;
- Work with existing and new major employers in the area;
- Identify market opportunities and develop social enterprises;
- Maximise local employment within the community from the public, private and voluntary sectors;
- Acquire property to resource / house economic activity;
- Identify opportunities and develop responses within emerging communities;
- Ensure that guidance, welfare rights and mentoring support are integral elements of the approach.
