Climate Challenge Fund

Climate Challenge Fund Success

North Edinburgh Trust has successfully attracted Climate Challenge Funding to work with the community over the next two years to raise the issue of climate change and support the community in making changes to reduce their CO2 emissions.

Inspired by work with community on issues such as open space and fuel poverty, this funding will enable the Trust to reach the wider community and engage them in work on the climate change agenda using an anti-poverty approach.

There are 4 main strands to the project:

Research

Research will be done to establish the baseline emission levels. There will also be a fuel poverty audit to map the extent and impact of fuel poverty in the area.

Awareness Raising

Through events and workshops, film nights, visits and educational courses, people will be able to meet and discuss the causes and effects of climate change globally and locally and be encouraged to come up with their own solutions.

Action

Thematic groups will be set up around issues identified by the community, e.g. food, transport, energy. These will be the main drivers for coming up with long term plans for behaviour change.

Training and Social Enterprise

There is potential to train local people in energy efficiency measures such as insulation, energy performance certification etc. and in waste recycling. There is the opportunity to establish social enterprises in these emerging markets and provide jobs for local people.

At the end of the project, there will be a community action plan, including an energy descent plan, which will outline what the community will do to reduce carbon emissions over the next 15-20 years.

Carbon Baseline Studies and Information Events

We are currently establishing some carbon baseline studies to begin this project. Click here for details of information session and to take part in the survey.

This project will be knows as NET Your Carbons

Eco Fair

We are currently planning and Eco Fair to launch the NET Your Carbons project and promote other activities within the Trust. It is hoped this will be part of a larger community festival.
