What is a Community Development Trust?
A development trust is a community-owned and run organisation that aims to achieve the sustainable regeneration of a community, including its economic, social, cultural and environmental needs. A development trust can own assets and generate income from trading activity to reduce dependency on grant funding. Surpluses from trading are normally reinvested to support its social aims or those of the community.
Building Trust in North Edinburgh
By becoming a community development trust, North Edinburgh Trust is better positioned to maximise the economic benefits for the local community from the regeneration of the North Edinburgh area and in particular the Granton Waterfront development.
The North Edinburgh Trust is a member of the Development Trusts Association Scotland
Management Arrangements
The North Edinburgh Trust is governed by a Board of Directors, the core of which is eight member Directors, elected on an annual basis from four local community councils. In addition the organisation has the facility to co-opt a further four Directors on to the Board.
